Mill House B&B Gallery
The pictures below are all taken at Mill House Bed and Breakfast, Preston.
The original Mill House was built in 1851, comprising a house, large barn and outbuildings. Originally used as an ironworks the mill has long since gone, however the weir is still in place along with working sluice gate and even the axle that formed part of the original waterwheel.
In the early sixties the house and the barn were joined together to create a large rambling, disjointed house. We had always been fascinated by the property and particularly its location on the riverbank. The weir forms such a fantastic natural water feature, so when it came up for sale we purchased the property in 2001 with the intention of renovating and revealing some of its history.
However, after a detailed examination it was decided the costs of renovation would exceed the costs of rebuilding the house and leave us with a less than ideal layout. We therefore decided to completely rebuild the house. The new plans created a warm modern home, whilst maintaining the character of the old property through the use of the original stone and archways from both the house and barn, including the old date stone.
We were delighted with the result and really enjoy living in this very special house. Over the years, our children have had a great time growing up here. However, the time has come when they’ve all moved on and now only Andrew, myself and Oscar our Weimaraner are left behind! We have decided to open up our house as a special B&B to share in our little taste of luxury by the riverside, Preston. A warm welcome awaits you and our aim is to make your stay special and enjoyable.
